San Giovanni Battista de Rossi (church) : ウィキペディア英語版 | San Giovanni Battista de Rossi (church) San Giovanni Battista de Rossi is a church on via Cesare Baronio in the quartiere Appio-Latino of Rome, Italy. It is dedicated to Saint John Baptist de Rossi (February 22, 1698 – May 23, 1764). Saint John Baptist was canonized in the year 1881 by Pope Leo XIII. This church was commissioned by Pope Pius XII in 1938 with the services of the architect Tullio Rossi. Owing to a delay in its construction due to the Second World War, the church could only be consecrated on May 22, 1965. St John Baptist de Rossi's relics were translated here from the church of Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini on May 23, 1965, his feast day, with Cardinal Luigi Traglia, the Vicar General of Rome, presiding. Nearly four years later, on April 30, 1969, Pope Paul VI made it a titular church, with Cardinal John Joseph Carberry as the first titular. The second, and present, titular is Cardinal Julio Terrazas Sandoval, appointed in 2001. The church itself is served by diocesan clergy.
